How to leave a legacy of Gratitude

As we enter this season of thanksgiving, have you ever considered what kind of legacy you are leaving? Will it be a legacy of generosity and gratitude?  Gratitude is defined as the quality of being thankful and the readiness to show appreciation. A legacy of gratitude will be the result of the choices we make each day.

We owe our children and grandchildren the example of living our lives with a generous heart.  But what about after life?  Have you incorporated a tangible way to show gratitude though your estate plan?

Many parents leave their entire estate to their children, and frankly that might not be a good idea. I do realize that every family situation is unique and a one-size-fits-all estate plan doesn’t work.  Determining how much to leave for your children and grandchildren is a challenging process. Consider capping your children’s inheritance at the point where more money could create a disincentive to achieving their full potential.

Once you have made a provision for your family, you have the opportunity to make a lasting gift to God by leaving a legacy gift to your church or ministry organization. Our resources are gifts from God and He intended for us to use them wisely.  Giving a legacy gift to your church or ministry organization serves as a testament of your faith. It is also a way to express generosity at a level which may not have been possible during your life.

A legacy gift is a wonderful expression of your gratitude and thanksgiving towards God for all that He has given you. It is one last opportunity to model what it means to be a good steward. What a blessing you can be to future generations and the vital ministries of the church.

    • I am not aware of any online community discussing this topic. I am passionate about educating people on the importance of creating a Family Legacy Drawer and that is the reason I blog about it.
